![]() Castelsardo is a fortified, medieval town which has kept its ancient charm for over 900 years. When it was founded by the powerful Doria family in 1102, it was named ‘Castelgenovese’. In 1448, having been taken over by the Crown of Aragona, it was renamed ‘Castellaragonese’. The Savoy family gave the town its present name in the 18th century.
The ancient castle, strong city walls and the Aragonese bell tower of the beautiful Cathedral of Sant’Antonio Abate soar out of the trachyte cliffs and their sheer drop to the sea - a sight which gives this place an unequalled magical beauty that has always charmed visitors, making them want to return again soon. |
